Before you come

Before your first lesson.

Riding carries real risk. Horses have minds of their own — they are not motorbikes. What follows isn't fine print; it's what we actually do every lesson.

The rules

Safety

While we try keep things easy and fun, it is important that you listen to the coach's instructions while at our riding school.

Correct footwear

We encourage the purchase of proper riding boots, which can be found online or in an equestrian store near you, however closed toe shoes must be worn at all times around horses otherwise you will not be allowed near the horses. It is strongly encouraged riding boots are purchased as soon as possible for safety reasons. We may refuse riding without riding boots due to safety.

Correct clothing

If you are riding, please wear long tight pants as this is safest to ride in. Please bring a warm top and a short rain coat (not below hip length) as most of our work is outside, so keeping warm and dry is important especially in winter.

Helmets

Helmets must be worn at all times when riding a horse, no exceptions. We do provide adjustable helmets, however it is not a one size fits all. We will try find the best fit for you / your child, but if you would like to purchase your own for the best fit you can.

Parents

It is important that parents stick around during the times their children are having a lesson in case of injury / an ill child. Whilst we try to control every situation we can, this is a higher risk environment, we have great horses but they do have minds of their own, they are not motorbikes!

Rider weight limit

The rider weight limit is 75kg. It is there for the horse as much as the rider, and we do enforce it.

If you miss a lesson

Let us know as early as you can — by 08:00 on the day for Monday to Thursday lessons, or by 20:00 the night before for Saturday. Tell us in time and we'll offer a make-up lesson: one per term, to be used within a month of the lesson you missed.

A make-up isn't guaranteed — it depends on a slot being free, and it may not be with your usual coach. Make-ups can't be transferred to another rider or carried into the next term.

The full wording is in our terms and conditions.
